DesignXchange is a cross-cultural design project with the aim of exploring how cultural stereotypes influence Graphic Designers, their message, and the perception of the communication. Students around the world—the United States, Turkey, and Zimbabwe—each designed two postcards under the title of "Sense of Community:" one for their own country, and one for other participating countries.
ASU Visual Communication students viewed fifty postcards created for Arizona without prior knowledge of the designers' origins; surveys regarding the postcards were completed by each student. The visualization below charts the hierarchy within which the top ten favorite postcards fell in surveyed categories, including: perceived country of origin, utilization of stereotypes, and success of communication.
